Random Acts of Kindness Week

Alright. So, as it says on my profile, I'm head of communications and community outreach of my schools' student council. Which means if anything ever goes wrong, I get blamed.

I was suppose to organize Random Acts of Kindness week within my school (our city celebrates it the week before our March Break). I got a package of information from the organizers of the city-wide event, that had the ribbons and everything in it, but more importantly, it had information about nominating a representative from our school to represent our city.

When I finally noticed THAT sheet, I realized that the nomination was due in two days, and that it'd be very impossible to have a name in time. So I talked to the teacher responsible for student council, and we decided to do a school-wide celebration of kindness citizens: I had to get every homeroom class to vote on who they believed to be the kindest person in their class so that we as a school could recognize those individuals. A few days after the name for the city-wide thing was due, I start organizing the school wide-vote. The name for the city-wide thing was due the 22nd, and I got the school nominating and voting the week after that. So on friday the 29th, I went through the homeroom classes to collect the votes, but I only had a chance to collect about 90% of the nominations. Which was bad, but I figured I could get them monday, no big deal, as we aren't celebrating the people until the END of random acts of kindness week, which starts on monday.

At lunch, i hear my name called down to the office. I go, and my school's principal destroys me! It was awful, going on and on about how disapointed she was, then she told me I had until the end of the day to pull something together, because the city-wide nomination people called to inform her that WE were the only school that hadn't submited a name. So I went to the guidance office, pleaded with a guidance councellor until she finally agreed to give me a list of all of the homeroom classes (but only if I agreed to bring back the list so that she could shred it afterwards, because it's not suppose to be available to students). Then I had to find a bunch of teachers, ask them if their class had nominated someone (most hadn't), then I had to count all of the votes from the other classes.

It was just nuts. So very hectic.

LONG STORY SHORT!

We got someone nominated for the city-wide thing. I kept telling my principal that, had there been a phone number (there was only a fax number given), I would have called and tried to rectify the situation myself, but she wouldn't really have it.

Whatever, I did my best. Next week is going to be hectic though. The pig kissing for CANFAR is now going to be sheep kissing, and I've got four teachers that agreed to do it, and I'm really thankful for that. Then monday we have "Open a door for someone and carry someone's books" -day, and then tuesday is "Pay someone a compliment"-day, then Wednesday I need to go out and buy 300$ worth of sandwhich bars because for random acts of kindness our student council always does something for another school, and then we get to go around another high school and hand them out at lunch. Should be fun. Then thursday I have to organize the thing to celebrate our school Kindness nominees. Whatever. BUSY WEEK.

On top of that, Tide Modelling assignment for math for my IB Portfolio, which sucks, 'cause we aren't allowed to get help, an essay on the cold war (why the korean war is typical of cold war conflict), and a french paper about a problem faced by our school.

I might die.
